Booking choice: The ticket with audio guide, from $36 per person. Check dates Tour details
The General ticket is the one that goes first, because its Nasrid Palaces slots are capped at 300 people per half hour. Summer 2025 ran at 95.5% average occupancy, with 738,000 visitors in three months (Ahora Granada). When the calendar turns grey, these are the routes that still work, in the order we would try them.
Official rules are from the Patronato's FAQ and the ticket shop, read in October 2026. Tour prices are Viator from-prices in US dollars.
The quick answer
First, keep checking the official shop: the Patronato releases unused allocations for direct sale, so tickets reappear in the final days. Second, try the night palaces or the Alhambra Experiences ticket, which last longer than the General. If neither works, a guided tour with its own palace quota, from $67, or a resold General ticket with audio guide, from $36, gets you in. Both are non-refundable.

Why are Alhambra tickets always sold out?
Because the Nasrid Palaces take at most 300 people every half hour, and close to 2.7 million people a year want in.
The Alhambra had 2,725,612 visitors in 2024. The palace slots are the bottleneck: the gardens and the Alcazaba could take more people, the palace rooms can't. Part of the daily capacity also goes to institutional channels, licensed agencies and official guides before the public sees it.
The online calendar shows about three months ahead, and for April, May, September, October and holiday weekends the General often goes weeks before the date. In winter you can often buy a few days ahead. Our winter 2026-27 post covers the quieter months.
Do Alhambra tickets get released again after selling out?
Yes. The Patronato releases unused tickets from its institutional allocations for direct sale, and they appear in the official shop without warning, mostly in the last days before a date.
The official FAQ confirms the mechanism: allocations not used by institutional channels can be released for direct sale. Nobody publishes a schedule. The practical move is to check tickets.alhambra-patronato.es several times a day in the week before your visit, for each ticket type, and to buy the moment a slot shows up. Online sales for a date close at 23:59 the day before.
A word on the famous midnight trick: travellers refresh the shop at 00:00 hoping for returned tickets. It sometimes works. A guest who ended up buying a resold ticket wrote: "We tried doing the midnight trick to get tickets but didn’t work". Try it, but have a plan B ready.

Can you buy Alhambra tickets at the ticket office on the day?
Sometimes. The ticket office sells same-day tickets while any are left, up to two hours before the Nasrid Palaces slot. In high season they are usually gone early.
The ticket office in the access pavilion opens at 08:00. Whatever it sells is for that day only, and the Patronato asks for at least two hours between purchase and the palace slot. In winter, on a weekday, this works more often than people think. On an April Saturday, don't build your trip on it.
The machines in the access pavilion sell same-day tickets too. Bring the passport or ID of everyone in your group: each ticket is printed with a name.
Do tours still have tickets when the official site is sold out?
Usually, yes. Licensed operators book palace slots from their own allocation, so a guided tour is the most reliable way in on a sold-out date.
That is the real product behind every "skip the line" Alhambra tour. The NHUE small-group tour ($67, about 20 people) and its premium version in groups of 10 ($78) both include the palaces. The private tour ($119 per person, less in bigger groups) is the only one in our list with free cancellation up to 24 hours before; the rest are non-refundable.
Check the inclusions before you pay. The Play Granada tour, the most reviewed Alhambra listing, does not include the Nasrid Palaces, and neither does the $23 option of the Granavision tour.

The most booked Alhambra tour with the Nasrid Palaces: a guide, headsets, the Alcazaba and the Generalife in three hours. Non-refundable once booked.

The well-reviewed ones work, but read the fine print: confirmation can take 48 hours, the palace time may be assigned for you, and the price is about three times the official one.
The ticket with audio guide is a resold General ticket with the Nasrid Palaces and a phone audio guide, from $36. Its listing spells out the terms: confirmation within 48 hours, tickets sometimes sent only 8 hours before the visit in busy periods, and a palace time that may be assigned at random. One guest summed up the price: "about 70 euros compared to 20". Another wrote that it was "impossible to find the tickets through the official website".
- Give exact passport names. The reseller books the named ticket for you; a typo means no entry.
- Use the PDF tickets, not wallet passes, at the gate. One guest advises using the PDF codes, not the wallet vouchers.
- Skip the poorly rated listings. One resold General ticket on Viator sits at 2.0 stars from 8 reviews; a few dollars saved is not worth a lost day.

Is the Alhambra night visit a good alternative?
Yes, and an underrated one. The night palaces ticket (EUR 12.73) and the Alhambra Experiences ticket (EUR 22.27, night palaces plus the gardens next day) usually last longer than the General.
From 15 October to 31 March the night palaces open on Friday and Saturday, 20:00 to 21:30; from 1 April to 14 October, Tuesday to Saturday, 22:00 to 23:30. Alhambra Experiences gives you the palaces at night and the Alcazaba, the Partal and the Generalife the following day: the full monument for the price of the General.
On Viator, the night tour with an official guide ($67, up to 30 people) has its own tickets. A guest wrote that two weeks before their visit they "were unable to make reservations through the Alhambra's official website", took the night tour, and found the palace "wonderful". Our night visit guide explains what you see and what you miss.

Check dates for the Alhambra night tourWhat about the Dobla de Oro, the Rodríguez-Acosta combo and the Granada Card?
Check them before you give up. Each is a separate product with its own Nasrid Palaces slot, and the Granada Card can open the Alhambra when the plain General is gone.
The Dobla de Oro General (EUR 30.48) adds the Andalusi monuments of the Albaicín to a full General visit. The Alhambra + Rodríguez-Acosta ticket (EUR 25.45) adds the painter's carmen and gardens, open 10:00 to 14:00. Both sit in the official shop next to the General, so check each for your date.
The Granada Card 48-hour version (EUR 55) includes the daytime Alhambra with the palaces plus city monuments and bus rides; the 24-hour card (EUR 50) has the night palaces only (Granada tourist office). Love Granada notes that the card can still get you Alhambra tickets when the official website has none left (lovegranada.com).
What should you not do when Alhambra tickets are sold out?
Don't buy a tour without checking it includes the palaces, don't buy someone else's ticket, and don't count on the ticket office in high season.
- Don't buy a transferred ticket. Tickets are named and checked against the original passport or ID. A ticket bought from a stranger in someone else's name will not get you in.
- Don't trust lookalike sites. The only official shop is tickets.alhambra-patronato.es. Sites with "Alhambra" in the address that look official resell with a markup and no extra service.
- Don't settle for the gardens ticket by accident. At EUR 12.73 it is often still on sale, and it has no Nasrid Palaces. Our Generalife guide explains the difference.
- Don't book a non-refundable tour twice. If you book a tour as a backup and the official ticket then turns up, you can't cancel the tour. Decide on one.
Every official price is in our Alhambra tickets guide.
