Alhambra & Generalife Guided Tour

About this experience

Read the title twice. "Alhambra and Generalife" sounds like everything, but the ticket inside this tour is the Gardens, Generalife and Alcazaba ticket, and the listing excludes the Nasrid Palaces admission. You see the Alcazaba, the Partal, the Generalife and the outside of the palaces, not the Court of the Lions or the Court of the Myrtles. It is the most reviewed Alhambra listing on Viator, 4,010 reviews at 4.1, and Liam's review below says it plainly.

As a gardens tour it's good. The guide starts at the Play Granada office in Plaza Nueva and walks the group up through the Alhambra woods to the Puerta de la Justicia, then through the Puerta del Vino, the Plaza de los Aljibes, the Alcazaba, the Palace of Charles V, the Partal and the Torre de la Cautiva, across to the Generalife, the Patio de la Acequia and the Water Stairway. English tours start at 10:00, 12:30 and 15:00.

On price: the official gardens ticket is EUR 12.73 on the official prices page, and this tour starts at $40, so most of what you pay goes to the guide. Tickets come on paper from the guide at the meeting point. The sale is final, and Play Granada can cancel or merge small groups.

What guests say

★★★★★

It does not include the Nazarines palaces, but at 33 hours long we had a great tour… The Alhambra is massive and it would be hard to see it all in a visit….

Great experience. Sandra was very knowledgeable and it was nice that she gave a few minutes at each spot to take photos.

He kept us informed about the Alhambra, telling us a lot of history. The pace was perfect for a mixed age group. Highly recommend this tour and guide.

Tips before you book

  • Check that you really don't want the Nasrid Palaces. This tour cannot add them, and the official palace slots sell out first.
  • Wear proper shoes. The listing rules out flip-flops and heels, and guests mention a lot of uphill walking.
  • Keep your phone number on the booking. A guest's small group was merged with an earlier one by phone the day before.
  • Bring water in summer; the walk up has shade but the Alcazaba has little.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Play Granada tour include the Nasrid Palaces?

No. The listing excludes the Nasrid Palaces admission ticket. You visit the Alcazaba, the Partal, the Palace of Charles V and the Generalife gardens and palace.

Where does the tour start?

At the Play Granada office next to the Santa Ana church at the end of Plaza Nueva, in the centre of Granada. The group walks up to the Alhambra, about 25 minutes uphill.

Why is it cheaper than other Alhambra tours?

Because the ticket inside is the Gardens, Generalife and Alcazaba ticket, EUR 12.73 officially, not the EUR 22.27 General ticket with the palaces.

Can I add the Nasrid Palaces later?

Only by buying a separate General ticket, which includes everything again. If you want the palaces, book a tour that has them from the start, like NHUE's small-group tour.
